Thank You For The Monkey Child or Darwin meets Erickson

If you juxtapose Eric Erickson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development with the Stages of Human Evolution toward an upright biped walking into the sunset, you’ll find interesting metaphoric correlations.

Since Erickson has eight stages of development and the evolution into Homo Sapiens from their origins has only six specified stages, I added two more;

7-Raise the stick

and

8-Look backward

(You have to use your metaphor imagination for those last two images.)

The evolution addendum compensates for Erickson’s 7th and 8th stages of development.

  1. Your added stages carry on with brain development. I like them. Since I am in Erickson’s eighth stage I understand the look backward, however I believe many, if not most, at this stage continue to also look forward and plan for end of the physical stages. The majority of people in the world believe in another stage that doesn’t incorporate a physical body. Or am I looking too far ahead? 🙂
