Thank You for the Do Not Call List and Margaret

All Cell Phone Numbers Go PUBLIC today.

All cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies tomorrow and you WILL start to receive sales calls.

You WILL be charged minutes for these sales calls and text messages.

To prevent this, call this number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.

It is the National DO NOT CALL list, sponsored by the Federal Trade Commission. It takes ten seconds.

Press one, follow instructions, and block your number for five (5) years.

You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked.

Thank you Margaret, for reminding me.

Now, anybody know the number for the DO NOT SPAM LIST?

  1. Thank you for the info! I’ve emailed/called all my family and friends to give them this news. 🙂

  2. I signed up for the Do Not Call list some years ago. It’s probably time to renew it; I have been receiving sale calls as late. Thanks for the reminder.

  3. I’ve been getting calls for the last 3 months – to renew the warranty on my car. HA! What warranty? Scam artists have no boundaries, and they know technology. The term “spam” is code for “scam”. Thanks for the info, LJK.

  4. This is a test – did my avatar show up finally? Ever since wordpress changed their UI design a couple months ago, my avatar shows up as one of those quilt-square-thingys. I used my other computer tonight to try and fix the avatar. Yes, it showed up fine on my pc, so let’s see if it shows up now that I’m using my mac. I’m hopelessly inept at this level of technology.

  5. Nope.

  6. One more time because I actually still believe that rebooting can fix a lot of problems.

  7. Hi Hi, i think it’s great to put your numbers on the Do Not Call list, that’s what i did with my own phone number, too… but….

There is no deadline! A friend showed me this explanation on Snopes.com:
“Cellular users can choose to register their cell numbers with the national Do Not Call registry, but doing so provides only a small additional measure of protection, since FCC regulations already in place block the bulk of telemarketing calls to cell phones.”

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/cell411.asp
Their discussion points out that it doesn’t hurt to register your cell number, but it’s not necessary to feel terribly rushed because there isn’t any kind of time limit, and the cell411 listings are all going to be strictly “opt-in”, and the laws have already been in place (for a few years, apparently) forbidding telemarketers from autodialing cellular numbers.

    Hope that helps!

  8. Nice avi Linda!

The do not call number insists that my phone is not the number from which I am calling. OK then.

  9. Thank you! I just called and did the process. I would not have remembered! 😀
