Thank You For “Celebrities Anonymous”

Oh My God! That is such a clever oxymoron!

It’s actually a 12 step program I am initiating for people who are addicted to the lives of celebrities to the point of forgetting the special purpose of  their own lives.

(I based this program on the 12 step program founded in 1935 by Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith. I respect AA and honor the people who have changed their lives with it.)

1. We admitted we were powerless over the influence of the media—that our lives had become mundane in comparison to manufactured celebrities.

2. Came to believe that the power of community could restore us to Humanity.

3. Made a decision to take back our lives from the Media

4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of our own worth and authentic value in the eyes of others.

5. Admitted  to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our preoccupation with people we had never even met.

6. Were entirely ready to ignore all propaganda that said we have defects of character in comparison to those we saw in magazines.

7. Humbly asked others to accept our imperfections as part of our beauty.

8. Made a list of all persons we idolized, and became willing to make amends by looking at them in the honest light of their human flaws.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or their egos.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it to a real person who understood.

11. Sought through human interaction the knowledge of our purpose for existing and the power to carry that out.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to real human beings and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Part of the first step is to look into the faces of REAL people and say Hello.

We really can change! We really can become just as important as those celebrities we see in the media.

Keep coming back, it works!

Here is an opportunity to practice the first step:
